Hey there fantastic readers! I’m so excited to be here with you in 2020 during the days leading up to the launch of Forgetting What I Couldn’t Remember. This book truly means so much to me, as it addresses things like my struggles with bullies, self-worth, and dating (the latter of which, I’m currently nursing a broken heart from, but worry not – it only makes for better content for you).
Forgetting What I Couldn’t Remember is a deep-dive into my childhood middle school experiences through the lens of my 22-year-old college educated mind. It’s fictionalized of course, but a lot of the happenings and people are very, very real (with their names changed to protect the guilty). What I hope to accomplish through this project is to spread awareness about bullying in the media.
It’s not always as simple or overt as getting shoved into a locker or having your lunch money stolen – often times, it takes the form of subtle mind games, exclusion, and petty lies that are much harder (if not impossible) for teachers and parents to patrol. This is why, in my case, it went on for about nine years unchecked (yes, I’m serious, kindergarten through 8th grade. Fun times.). With this book, I’m blowing the lid off of the whole thing, showing readers what it was really like for me in the hopes that more people would realize how toxic classrooms can be which allow this to continue on for a while.
Additionally, I would love to link up with an anti-bullying charity of some sort so that this concept can do some real-world good. If anything knows of anything I should look into ahead of my February release, please do comment below. Official release date coming soon, I promise!
Right now, I’m just doing final spell checks and edits to make this manuscript as clean and professional as humanly possible. Waiting to hear back from a couple of my beta readers, and then having the cover spine tweaked a bit. After that though, we’ll be good to go for probably mid-February. Exciting, isn’t it? As she sifts through the mangled pieces of reality and her altered memories of middle school drama become jumbled in between truth and fantasy, Vera has to choose which elements of her past should stay in the past, and which she might like to incorporate into her future. Time travel is never simple, and there are always side effects – but in this case, it might just hold the key to finding her dad.
Will Vera stay sane long enough to find her dad and make peace with the bullies who made her miserable?
