Even Light Beings Can’t #adult Sometimes

You know that feeling when it’s freezing cold outside and you’re snug in bed, but your alarm goes off? Your stomach drops, and perhaps some groans escape from your lips, because another day is starting and you just don’t want to deal. Or, maybe you simply can’t deal, as the cool kids say.

I used to have to get up at 5:30 for high school – and yes, it was seriously 5:30. That’s the way the cookie crumbles when you attend an elite prep school in Boston (I survived, I swear!). Needless to say, I know that sick-to-your-gut morning blues that happens to anyone who adores sleep and hates responsibility robbing them of it.

Or maybe it’s just the feeling of having to do something that robs you of your peace and quiet that can be found in the morning hours (if you’re an early bird, that is). Regardless, everyone can relate to feeling stressed or tired, or maybe even just a bit out of place. I actually wrote about these very human sensations for not-completely-human characters (ironic, I know).

More specifically, Luna and Onyx are two light beings who were banished to Earth (for reasons you’ll just have to find out in book 1). And Onyx actually knows how to function pretty well on Earth, as it was part of his guide training (should a need to survive on Earth ever come up). Luna, however, wasn’t trained for that, since sorters don’t typically ever visit Earth – and Onyx has to help her learn to function properly as an almost-but-not-quite human.

A moment of #adulting as taught to Luna by Onyx in book 2 of The Upperworld Series, The Fall of Zephyr.

My hope is that by including more cheeky and amusing scenes like this, the reader will be able to enjoy a small reprieve from the intense action and adventure that awaits on the next pages. At this point in the book, stuff just got real, and Luna and Onyx will struggle to avoid the wiles of an obsessed stalker bent on bringing upon their ultimate demise. To what end, you ask? Well, you’ll just have to read to find out.
